HELP US TO GENERATE KNOWLEDGE
FOR SEX LIFE TRANSFORMATION
While you read these lines, unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic is exacerbating couple conflict, sexual violence, sex anxiety, sex addiction, sexual frustration, personal crisis, and depression among many individuals and communities around the world. However, these sociocultural problems and biopsychological dysfunctions were already present in democratic globalized societies long before the pandemic started, proving that modern human sexuality malfunctions are not circumstantial but structural and, certainly, global.
We are convinced that the intimacy of sex and sexuality is the most fruitful and strategical instance of human life for start cultivating new ethics and new ways of living—and, perhaps, the only way to resolve the structural problems of sexuality in globalized societies. Sex life transformation implies an ethical reconfiguration of the conducts of free people, leaving behind mainstream self-centered sexualities, individualistic cultures and egocentric lifestyles.
The spiritual but not religious approaches to sexuality become pertinent today in human cultures, more than ever, because they allow freedom and self-determination, while also, as any other form of spirituality, they can help people to cultivate urgent values as selflessness, solidarity and spirit of service. In this way, spirituality re-emerges in the 21 st century as a fundamental dimension of human sexuality.
How we act and how we behave with others in our sex life reveals our real ethical condition, our ultimate values, and the deep foundations of our drives and purposes. This is why sex life transformation in a post-pandemic world is of the highest importance: sex and sexuality become today privileged territories, not only for start changing ourselves, but for raising, guiding and educating the present and the next generations of human beings, the only process that can leads us to cultivate a better tomorrow.

OUR MISSION
IN A POST-PANDEMIC WORLD
During 2020 and 2021 the S&SRN will be focused in the development of interdisciplinary
projects specifically designed to meet the needs of the individual and social conditions caused
or accelerated by the COVID-19 global pandemic.
e S&SRN works on five projects addressing the most urgent human sexuality needs in the
present-day situation, plus short-term strategies and models for action to manage these issues.
Complementarily, the S&SRN works on other five projects addressing globalized structural
necessities and challenges requiring mid-term or long-term plans and strategies.
Our purpose is to contribute with data, research analysis, practical guidelines, innovative ideas
and pertinent models for action related to different sexuality and spirituality issues. We create
and diffuse models for action to respond effectively to the individual and social emergencies
and challenges in the global crisis, generating new knowledge experiences with the potential
of catalyzing positive cultural transformations.
THE EMERGENCIES WE ARE RESPONDING TO:
Lockdowns and sexual violence
Social distancing and couples conflicts
Physical distancing and sex anxiety or sex addiction
Self-isolation and sexual frustration
Personal crisis and depression
THE STRUCTURAL CHALLENGES WE ARE RESPONDING TO:
Reconfiguring intimate relationships

THE PERTINENCE OF RESEARCH AND
KNOWLEDGE FOR SEX LIFE TRANSFORMATION
The first step to start transforming sex lives, cultivating new ethics and creating new ways of living is generating knowledge among the people. Indeed, knowledge is fundamental to raise, guide and educate individuals and communities. But knowledge is not an object; it is not a thing that can be acquired. Knowledge is an exercise, it is a matter of relationships between human beings, and between beings and nature. Knowledge can be generated and stimulated among the populations, but knowledge only can be cultivated by people themselves through everyday practice.
People needs knowledge to transform their sex lives. Knowledge to become familiar with their own anatomy and the physiology of the sexual functions of the human body. Knowledge to approach the arts of making love and the arts of giving pleasure to their sexual partners. Knowledge to understand how to self-manage their couple relationships. Knowledge to appreciate the richness of diversity in gender identity. Knowledge to empower themselves taking decisions on birth control and family planning. And primarily, knowledge to comprehend the health, wellness and well-being potential of sexual activity.
Plus, knowledge to cultivate love, care and respect between sexes and genders. Knowledge, also, to question normalized self-centered values and egocentric habits. Knowledge to shape new moralities and models of sex life based on freedom but balanced with values as selflessness and solidarity. Knowledge to perceive the spiritual potential of sex. Knowledge to feel the spiritual dimension of sex life and sexuality. Knowledge to see the life transformation potential of sexuality. And moreover, knowledge to learn how to live truly satisfied.
This is why research on contemporary sex life is pivotal. Models, programs and guidelines can’t be designed without previous research, nor either any plan of action or educational activity. We need research to enhance, support and renew knowledge. Not only scientific research, but also artistic, historical, and philosophical research in complementary dialogue and feedback, through authentic interdisciplinary projects. Only research can generate authentic knowledge as an alternative to the excess of opinion and false information in globalized societies.
THE S&SRN REAL-WORLD
PROBLEM-SOLVING RESEARCH
The S&RN projects are specifically designed to address real-world situations, while the diffusion of the research outcomes is directly targeted to solve real-life problems. Even if the research contribution is theorical, there is no other general goal today different than providing helpful and useful elements for the reconstruction of human societies in a post-pandemic world. And even if the inquiry is centred on historical events, research should be functional to actual, current world situation. This is why the S&SRN research is conceived as a toolbox: as something to be used in everyday life. Because in a post-pandemic world, education—including academy—must become dedicated to design real-world problem-solving models and programs for the communities, without discrimination of any kind.
Moreover, the S&SRN projects are focused on the alternative approaches to sexuality embraced by spiritual but not religious cultures, giving priority to embodied experiences. We explore what diverse spiritual perspectives about sex and sexuality can provide to the design of new models of education, formation, training, and thinking. The intent is to help to bridge the gap between contemporary life spiritual practices and scholarly research, particularly scientific inquiry. The objective is to design models of practice and training for enhancing sex life and making life better. We encourage scholars, professionals, practitioners, communities, NGO’s, and public organizations in agreement with the S&SRN research vision and mission to join us, and become a contributor.
The S&SRN creates multidisciplinary debates—exchanging and contrasting perspectives. Publishes interdisciplinary books—producing synthesis of ideas through the integration the diverse disciplinary perspectives. And finally, designs transdisciplinary activities—diffusing the pertinent information for solving real-life problems and necessities. The S&SRN encompasses all kinds of basic research and methodologies, but mainly, applied research and empirically-grounded research. Also, we create new multimedia and hypermedia experiences based in our research outcomes. Furthermore, we integrate academic and self-managed research production and diffusion.
It is all about generating knowledge to catalyze positive cultural transformations. Fortunately, in the 21st century, knowledge returns to its roots: training and practice. Everyday life returns as the centre. We believe in knowledge expanding itself through learning more than through teaching, and even more in times of new technologies. The S&SRN real-world problem-solving research is designed and collected to generate knowledge experiences among communities, including the knowledge necessary to transform and improve sex life, and the urgent knowledge we all need to live better. The S&SRN presents a great variety of interdisciplinary projects distributed through eight lines of research, all of them composed of valuable and pertinent examples of real-world problem-solving research.
